Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a complex membrane system arranged irregularly in the plasma of eukaryotic cell. Endoplasmic reticulum serves the function as passage in cytoplasm connecting to nucleus. RE membrane is covered by ribosome.

Endoplasmic reticulum is distinguished into two, rough RE and smooth RE. The surface of rough RE is formed because it is attached by ribosome.
