Observation Growth and Development of Plant

Objective
To understa nd the growth and development of plants

Tools and Materials
1. Beaker glasses
2. Filter paper
3. Stationery
4. A piece of string
5. Red beans
6. Corn seeds

Steps

Soak red beans and corn seeds for 24 hours.

Prepare 20 x 20 cm of filter paper. Arrange 5 red beans and corn seeds on different filter papers (look at Figure a and b).

Fold the filter papers and tie them in knot so that the seeds will not come out.

Soak all the seeds in the filter paper in a beaker glass with enough water. Try to float the surface part of the filter paper, for instance by giving weight to counter it (look at Figure c).

6. Put beaker glasses in different environments, such as dark or bright place. What hypotheses can you make?

7. After three days, open the paper fold and observe the seeds growth (look at Figure d and e).

8. Measure the length of stem and root (in cm) using a piece of thread and a ruler. Questions

1. How is the growth process of red beans and corn seeds?

2. Based on the result, were your hypotheses correct?

3. Make an experiment report based on the scientific methodology you have learned in tenth grade.
